About Rhayader & District Community Support

RHAYADER & DISTRICT COMMUNITY SUPPORT (referred to affectionately as RDCS) is an independent Charity set up in 1987 for the direct benefit of our community. We are not part of any statutory body. 

Based at the Arches, in the centre of Rhayader our aim is to provide services that help local people live healthy and independent lives within their community. For example, we operate a community transport scheme; act as a focal point for local information, and work with PAVO and local organisations to promote volunteering and community involvement.

The Arches, originally a post office at the turn of the last century, was purchased as a community building with a grant from the Welsh Development Agency.  The building has 6 offices, 5 of which are let to charities and local organisations. RDCS, together with the telecentre occupy the ground floor. We have a newly refurbished fully accessible meeting room available for hire.

We are presently working to obtain funding for the Community Nursery. We are working in partnership with several bodies, including Rhayader Young Farmers Club, to have a brand new, purpose built building within Rhayader Primary School grounds.The project is for a community nursery to provide an excellent facility for the children of Rhayader and District.It will work closely with existing playgroups and cater for any children between birth and school age. We are requesting letters of support for this project - local support is not only important to us, but to our funders.
